Biography

Bozhidar Chapkanov has developed a research profile at the intersection of music analysis, harmony and keyboard practice. His doctoral dissertation at City, University of London, completed in 2022, examines harmony and tonality in Franz Liszt's late piano music and proposes a hybrid approach combining functional and neo-Riemannian analysis. This interest continues in his publications on Weitzmann regions and 'double harmonic syntax'. In 2024 he edited the Vernon Press volume 'Transformational analysis in practice'. His conference activity includes the Royal Musical Association and EuroMAC. In 2026 EuroMAC11 listed him with Southwestern University 'Neofit Rilski' and papers on Pancho Vladigerov. The same programme identified him as Vice-President of BSMT, while ESMUC included him on the national Reading Panel. Public sources also describe him as a pianist and composer, but they do not establish a sufficiently complete catalogue of his compositions; that component therefore requires direct confirmation.
